James Arthur Sass (Jim) age 82, found peace on March 13, 2025. Jim knew it was time to rest so he laid down his head and while in the arms of his treasured family, his heart beat one last time.
Jim was deeply loved and cherished and will be missed tremendously by his grandson and best friend, Hunter Sass, his daughter in law, Dawn Sass, his son, Steven Sass, his grandson, Alexander Sass and his granddaughter, Sofia Sass.
Jim brought joy and laughter to many special people in his life, especially his dear friends, Mary Kay Holzman, Bob Kaczynski and the late Danny Miller. Jim loved his side kicks and loyal 4-legged companions, Buck and the late Buddy.
Jim will be fondly remembered by the many people he touched and proudly served for 62 years of funeral service at Max A. Sass and Sons Funeral Home, founded by his parents, the late Max and Helen Sass. They raised Jim and his sisters, the late Patricia (Donald) Edwards and Judith (Marv) Kremski while serving their community starting in 1937. Jim was so honored and full of pride that the funeral home continues to be family owned and operated by son, Steven Sass, nephew, Michael Kremski and grandson, Hunter Sass.
Jim was Chairman of St. Francis Hospital and a board member at Lincoln Savings Bank and M&M Bancorporation. Jim used his time on earth to generously give to others through countless community service clubs, associations, charities, churches and organizations. Those that knew Jim, know this list is too voluminous to detail.
Jim was an avid golfer, a part-time fisherman, an occasional grill master and a questionable joke teller. He enjoyed traveling, sports, socializing and spending time with his family. Some of his happiest moments were watching his grandsons play baseball and football. He was especially proud sitting in the theatre watching his granddaughter perform on stage. The void he leaves behind is deafening but we will fill it with music, laughter, banter and stories about Jim…just the way he would want us to!
Further survived by Tami Sass, Kim DeNapoli and their families, many nieces, nephews, cousins and an endless array of friends he encountered during his walk through life. Whether near or far, past or present, all were loved and not forgotten.
A special thanks to Hales Corners Care Center, Zilber Family Hospice and Robert Bell from Max A. Sass and Sons.
To all the Greasy Spoons, Gin Mills, Joints and Eateries far and wide, Jim Sass salutes you!
