James “Jim” Kenneth Buhr passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on February 7, 1953, Jim's life was one marked by passion, creativity, and a gentle heart that endeared him to all who knew him.
Jim graduated from Marquette High School in 1971, where he laid the foundation for a life of varied interests and talents. He was a man who could turn his hand to anything, and in his early years, he worked in home improvement, showcasing his handy and creative skills. In the 70’s he worked as a bartender at several popular east side establishments, including Wolski's, Up and Under Pub, The Stone Toad, and Hannah's. It was during this time at one of these bars that he met the love of his life, Anne, and they went on to share nearly 44 years together.
In addition to his wife Anne, Jim is survived by his brother Michael Buhr, his sister Kathleen (the late Chuck) Rekowski, and his sister Rosemary (Bradley) Sears. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jim's zest for learning led him to return to school later in life to become a computer technician, a field in which he thrived until his retirement. His ability to adapt and embrace new challenges was a testament to his enduring spirit and inquisitive mind.
Beyond his professional life, Jim had a rich tapestry of interests. After high school, he played rugby with the Milwaukee Rugby Club, an experience that took him to Great Britain and further fueled his love for the sport. A highlight for Jim was buying his Harley Davidson in time for the brand's 100th anniversary, a testament to his enduring sense of adventure.
Golf was another of Jim's passions. He not only loved to play but also enjoyed the camaraderie of playing machine golf with retirees. His gentle nature extended to his love for animals. Jim and Anne took in over two dozen stray cats throughout their years together, providing a loving home for those in need. His backyard was a sanctuary for local wildlife, and he took great pleasure in watching the animals that visited.
In the quiet moments, we will find him in the places he loved: on the rugby field, riding his Harley on an open road, on the golf course, and in the contented purrs of the cats he cared for. Jim's spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann and William Buhr.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please check back for updates.
