Jack Mcgowan

April 10, 1929 — June 18, 2017

Jack McGowan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18th 2017, at St. Annes Salvatorian Campus. Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Grace (ne Storch) and John McGowan in 1929. He was a mischievous child and would often regale his family with the antics of his youth. During this time, he met the love of his life, Margaret, while their families vacationed on Lake Simcoe, Ontario. They married in Toronto in 1952 shortly after Jack was drafted by the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After attending officers training, Jack was stationed in Bamberg, Germany. He later served in the Army Reserves as a captain until 1969. Jack and Margaret settled and lived in the Chicago area for many years. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Elmhurst College in 1957. Jack worked for Addressograph Multigraph in Chicago and Milwaukee. He and his family relocated from Wheaton, IL to Wauwatosa, WI in 1966. Jack began his career as a State Farm insurance agent in 1974. He retired in 1996 to devote time to his family and his numerous hobbies, which included photography, flying, boating, golf, and gardening. He was an active member in the Lions Club for many years. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed owning and caring for his dogs and cats. Jack will be dearly missed by his children Nancy (Chris) and John (Jill), his grandchildren Elizabeth, Molly, John, Mary Margaret, Matt, Kathleen, and Joseph, and his brother Donald (Bonnie). He will always be remembered for his wonderful stories, the funny nicknames he assigned to others, his dry sense of humor, and passion for the many skills he decided to master. He joins his cherished wife Margaret and their many pets, his parents, his stepmothers (Edna and Jean), and his brother George (Janie) in eternal life. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral. Instead, Jack can be honored through donations made to the Wisconsin Humane Society, as he was a passionate lover of dogs.
