Hattie Kozinski

May 28, 1932 — February 1, 2017

Kozinski, Hattie (Jadwiga) Born to eternal life February 1st, 2017 at the age of 84. Loving wife of the late Anthony "Tony". Dear mother of John (Sue), Richard, the late Christine, and David "Butch" (Pamela). Loved Babcia to Jennifer, Jessica (Danny) and Matthew (Stephanie), and Anthony (Rachael) and Brandon (Caitlyn). Great Babcia to Mia and Owen. Best sitter of Bear. Hattie was born in Poland. Her childhood was forever changed on September 1st, 1939. She survived the war, though some family members did not. She met her husband Tony, a survivor of a forced labor camp in Siberia and a proud member of the Polish army that supported Patton's invasion of Sicily, after the war. They married and spent years in a displaced persons camp in England. It was there that she gave birth to two sons, John and Richard. In 1952, they all left for America and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on the Queen Mary. A train ride brought them to their sponsors, Leo and Ruth Piskula, in Milwaukee. From here, they planted roots that grew with the birth of their only daughter, Christine, and another son David. Hattie spent years raising the children, while Tony worked tirelessly at a plumbing supply company with his brother Walter (also a survivor of the forced labor camp in Siberia). In 1975, after three children were grown and gone, she took a custodial job working the second shift at First Financial Bank. Nine years later, she took the same job at Wisconsin Electric (WE Energies). She worked there for 20 years, before retiring at the age of 72. She enjoyed 12 years of retirement, watching her grandkids grow up, attending numerous events and hundreds of soccer, basketball, volleyball and baseball games. Watching them brought her the greatest joy. Hattie and Tony were participants in helping pass the legislation establishing Grandparents Rights in Wisconsin. Hattie was a dear friend of the Piskula, Lomowski, Lacey, Czarniak and Eynon families. She was forever grateful to Kathy for being a tremendous mother to Jessica. Our family would like to thank the Dominican Sisters, the nursing staff, and all at St Ann Rest Home who made Hattie's stay there comforting. She was in the good hands of very caring and loving people. A visitation will be held at ST. ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (1710 W. Bolivar Ave., Milw. WI) on Saturday February 4, 2017 from 9:30 10:45 AM with the funeral mass to begin at 11 AM. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Ann's Rest Home would be appreciated.
