Grace Martha Kadela (nee Lassa) Grace went home to be with the Lord and to join Ray, her loving husband of 54 years on Saturday, April 11, 2020. Her family is grateful to the devoted staff who most recently cared for Grace in the Rose Hospice unit. Grace had been a resident of Clement Manor for nearly ten years, where she had come to be known over the years for her energy and enthusiasm for social gatherings as “Amazing Grace.” A Milwaukee resident her whole life, Grace was born June 28, 1922 to Cecilia (nee Kominowska) and Matthew Lassa. Over many years she enjoyed the love and friendship of her younger sister, Audrey, and her older sister, Genie. Both sisters passed away just in the last few years. Grace also was sister and friend to devoted brothers Arnie, Dave, Larry and Jim who are also deceased. She leaves behind her loving brother, Norman and his wife, Dianna. Norm spent many years loyally tending to Grace’s needs after her dear husband, Ray, passed away. Grace also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, retirement community neighbors and friends. A long time employee of Harnischfeger, Grace was very proud of the work she did there as a technical writer. She enjoyed many friendships that transcended her retirement from the company. On August 2, 1947 Grace married Ray Kadela, the handsome Marine who was her own true hero and the love of her life. Together, the couple made a home on Halsey Avenue on the south side where they enjoyed long friendships with neighbors. Ray and Grace were also faithful parishioners of St. Romans Church in the same neighborhood. Throughout their marriage, the two especially enjoyed traveling together - whether it was to a cozy cottage in the north woods of Wisconsin, to the beautiful natural settings of Manistee, Michigan – home to Grace’s relatives, or to Hawaii, one of the couple’s favorite exotic vacation destinations. Contact with Ray’s Marine buddies often took the couple on joy-filled trips to different parts of the country. A highlight of their later years was their 50 th wedding anniversary celebrated with family and friends at the Packing House restaurant. Eternal rest grant unto Grace, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she and all the faithful departed rest in peace. Grace will be laid to rest at St. Adalbert’s cemetery, next to her beloved husband, Ray in a private service. Grace’s immediate family will gather for a private memorial celebration of Grace’s life which will take place sometime after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted in our area. Messages of condolence to the family are welcome here. The family asks that memorial donations be made in Grace’s name to the Fisher House of Milwaukee.
