Gertrude Webster, 87, died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Harmony of Brenwood Assisted Living in Franklin, Wisconsin. She was born in Milwaukee WI on November 23, 1923 to Annette (Nee Sanders) & Elmer Lindgren. Gert was raised in Ashland WI. She entered the nursing program at the University of Wisconsin, completing her training in 1945. On November 23, 1944, she married Richard Jay Webster (of Knoxville TN) in Ashland, WI. After the end of WWII, they built their first home in Wausau, WI. later moving to Badger Village, while Jay completed his degree. They raised their three daughters in Franklin, WI and also hosted Vera Montenagro (San Paulo, Brazil) and Dagmar Schierholz (Bremen, Germany) both AFS students. Gert utilized her nursing skills as an industrial nurse working for several companies. Gert and Jay gave generously to numerous charities and were proud alumni supporters of UW Madison. Gert was a dedicated volunteer, serving her community in many ways, including the Well Baby Clinic, PTA, the Franklin Players (both on and off stage), and her church. After almost twenty years in Franklin, the Websters moved to Goleta CA where Gert continued her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Transition House and in 1983 she received the Goleta Valley Golden Deed Award. When Jay retired in 1992, they built their dream home in Kodak TN, overlooking the "Great Smokey Mountains." Following Jay's death on October 24, 2004, Gert moved back to Franklin to be closer to family, especially daughter Pam who has been a loving caregiver. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Marion Crick. She is survived by her loving family: Annette (Russ) Port and their children Eva (Darrin) Berg, Jason (Karen) Port and Ben (Lori) Port; Sandra Leigh and her daughter Lovenia (Janel) Johnson; and Pam (Jeff) Ebert and their children Victoria (Aaron) Lauber, Kristin (David) Martinez and John Ebert and her German daughter, Dagmar Schierholz. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Gina and Angelea Sanchez Berg, Austin and Dylan Berg, Jacob Port, Sidney, Grace, Mariah and Calista Port, Laila and Zaid Johnson, Anna and Brielle Lauber and Eli Martinez and her great-great grandson, Landon Osberg. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie Strous, brother-in-law Don Webster, sister-in-law Glenda (Don) Crowley and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony of Brenwood and Home and Hospice Advantage for their compassionate care. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 10:AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service at Oak Creek Community United Methodist Church (8675 S. 13th Street Oak Creek, WI). A time of fellowship will follow the services at the church. Committall prayers will be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove at 2 PM where Gert will be interred with her husband Jay. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated in Gert's name to the charity of your choice.
