Gerald Norbert Braun, affectionately known as Jerry, lived a life of kindness. Born on July 2nd, 1937, in Milwaukee, WI, Jerry's gentle, soft-spoken spirit won hearts. On June 21st, 2023, at the age of 85, he passed away at his cherished home in Greendale, WI, leaving behind a legacy of love.
Family meant everything to Jerry; his quiet devotion, big heart, and deep faith nurtured those who were fortunate to know him. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 62 years, Carol, who described Jerry as the love of her life: “He never said an unkind thing to me in the 60+ years I knew him.”
Jerry was a hard-working family man who was happiest when he had a project going – whether building the family cabin, remodeling his house, or helping his children with various home renovations. His three kids fondly remember him singing to Johnny Cash as he’d putter around the basement, contentedly taking care of his daily agenda. Jerry had an artistic eye and was a creative master builder who could visualize plans in his head and easily implement them without a blueprint.
A trailblazer in his field, Jerry became the youngest master plumber in the State of Wisconsin – a remarkable feat that exemplified the quiet commitment he applied to all aspects of his life. He founded Braun Plumbing Company, and ran the business alongside Carol for 25 dedicated years. He was also a detailed carpenter who excelled at electrical work and construction of all kinds.
Jerry loved to boat, fish, and spend time at his cabin up north, which he planned and constructed together with his family. Jerry's knowledge and talent also extended into the community, as he led activities for the Greendale Lions Club, and was the past president of the Usher Society for nine years at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Jerry also enlisted in the National Guard in 1955, and loyally served in the 32 nd Infantry Division Artillery in Fort Lewis, WA; he was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961-62.
Jerry and Carol raised three children – Lindi (Dave) Lund, Jeff (Whitney) Braun, and Jen (Joanie) Braun – who witnessed firsthand the love and patience their father exhibited. Jerry also leaves behind his dear grandchildren Alyssa (Tyler) Lund-Kyrola, Kaelie (Dominic Hoeppner) Lund, Mara Braun, Ben Braun, and Roger Braun, as well as his devoted sister JoAnn (Paul) DeFazio. He is preceded in death by his parents (Norb and Jo Braun), his brother (Bob Braun), and his grandson (Rex Braun).
Celebration of Life will be held at Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church (6060 W Loomis Rd., Greendale, WI) at 5pm on Tuesday, July 11th, with visitation from 3pm - 5pm at the church. Private burial will take place at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery (Cudahy, WI) at a later time. Friends and family are encouraged to wear blue, Jerry’s favorite color, to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Ampersand Families ( https://ampersandfamilies.org/ ) where Jerry was a major founding donor, or to the nonprofit of your choice.
Rest in Peace. Rest in Love. Now and always.
