Georgette J Blair

October 21, 1928 — August 23, 2023

Georgette J. Blair, 94, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Georgette was born on October 21, 1928 to the late Euphrasie and Ferdinand Wingen in Liège, Belgium. She came to the United States in 1946, the year she married the late Thomas Blair.

Georgette is survived by her loving daughter Dolores (Bob) Brooks and daughter-in-law Irene Blair; granddaughters Michelle (Bob) Hart, Holly (Tony Reed) Brooks; grandson Tommy (Sandy Ward) Blair; and great-granddaughter Toni Reed. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas, son Tom, grandson Jason Brooks and brother Maurice (the late Irene). From her husband’s family, she is survived by sister-in-law Jean; and preceded in death by his siblings Jim (Pat), Larry (husband of Jean), Joe (Esther), Elmer (Dorothy), Ceilia (John), Geraldine (Joe), and Mildred (Roland).

Georgette spent the first 17 years of her life in the Belgium town of Liège, where she met her husband Tom in 1946 while he was stationed abroad. The two married on May 11th of that year, then Georgette set off on her own to the U.S. where she was welcomed by Tom’s sister-in-law, Pat. Georgette spoke no English at first but settled in with Tom’s family in Minnesota (White Earth Reservation) and quickly picked up the English language. Once he returned home to Minnesota, they had two children, Dolores and Tom. They lived there for 5 years then moved to Milwaukee in 1951 at which time she was a homemaker and worked at a candy factory for a short time. Her beloved husband died in 1977 then in 1978 she decided to get her driver’s license and got a job in the food service department at St. Francis Hospital, where she worked for 15 years and retired at the age of 65.

In life Georgette enjoyed playing cards, dancing, going out for Chinese food and visiting with family and friends. She loved to help watch her grandchildren and other family/friend's children and liked telling stories of the fishing trips to Canada. She is fondly remembered for being an avid Packer fan, always being a willing and able chauffeur for her family and her love for animals, especially her dogs. She will be dearly missed.

We would like to thank all the caregivers at The Cornerstone Assisted Living Home in West Bend. Georgette grew fond of the staff and residents and enjoyed many afternoons playing bingo and doing her word search puzzles.
