Frederick M. Knueppel

July 6, 1944 — April 3, 2022

Frederick M Knueppel passed away at his home in Franklin on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the age of 77. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Evelyn (nee Schmidt) Knueppel and his sister Daniele Lynn Haber (nee Knueppel). He is survived by his loving wife Cynthia Knueppel (nee Waite), children Kelley (David) Giffen, Karl Knueppel, Michele Sughroue (whom he thought of as a daughter), grandchildren Samantha Jo and Dalton, and great-granddaughter Madeline Rose, as well as nephews, nieces, and other family members. Fred was born in Milwaukee, raised in Hales Corners, WI, and graduated from Whitnall High School in 1962. He was employed by the US Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier for 35 years, primarily servicing Franklin, WI. His lifelong participation in amateur leagues and activities in the areas of softball, pool, cards, and golf rewarded him with many friendships, both long-standing and new. When young, he was an avid duck hunter but turned that into a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and nature, and especially loved being in the woods. Throughout his lifetime, Fred had many interests, including photography, antiquing (especially woodworking tools), technology (especially computers), and had an avid interest in birds. After his retirement, Fred felt it was time to give back to his community. He served on the City of Franklin Planning Commission and was active on the Quarry Monitoring Committee at the time of his death. He was a member of the Franklin Seniors for 20 years, having served the last 10 years as President. He previously served as a commissioner on the Milwaukee County Dept of Aging’s SeniorCare Advisory Committee. Perhaps his most enjoyable volunteering experience was his years at Independence First, which blended his love of technology with his compassion for working with the disabled. The family is hoping his many friends and acquaintances will choose to share any of their favorite memories or stories of Fred during the service. We will be celebrating Fred’s life at Max Sass Funeral Home, Mission Hills Chapel on Wednesday, April 13, with a Memorial gathering from 4 PM to 6:30 PM, with a service and time for sharing at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the planting of a tree in Fred’s honor or donation to St. Camillius Hospice are appreciated by the family.
