Frank R. Kumprey, born on November 22, 1943, in Greenfield, Wisconsin, left this world on January 2, 2025, at the Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. His life, filled with dedication, warmth, and joy, will be fondly remembered by many.
Frank began his career as a hardworking dry waller before answering the call to serve the community as a Milwaukee County Sheriff. With unwavering commitment, he served as a bailiff for both Judge Randa and Judge Wells. After a distinguished career spanning 27 years, Frank retired, leaving behind a legacy of service and integrity.
An outstanding athlete during his formative years, Frank showcased his talents in football, wrestling, and track while attending Greenfield High School, graduating in the class of 1962. He continued his education at Eau Claire University, always eager to learn and grow.
Those who knew him will remember Frank as a very caring man who fiercely loved his friends. His passion for life and the people around him was evident in everything he did. After retirement, he found joy working at the Eagle Springs Golf Course, where he reconnected with nature and helped maintain the beauty of the greens. He happily embraced “snowbirding” at Dell Webb Spruce Creek County Club in Summerfield, Florida, where he made countless memories golfing, dancing, and enjoying karaoke with his loving “family” of friends.
Living on Eagle Springs Lake, Frank enjoyed playing golf and found solace in working with his hands—building things, nurturing his yard, and tending to the golf course. He appreciated the simple yet profound pleasures of life, which he shared with his wife, Barb Binder Kumprey, and the numerous family members and friends who adored him.
Frank leaves behind his beloved wife, Barb, and cherished siblings: John (Sharon) Kumprey of Crivitz, William (Judy) Kumprey of Greenfield, and Marguerite (the late Dan) Stevens of New York City. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Bob (Cathy) Binder of Arizona and a multitude of nieces and nephews, including Robbie Kumprey, Susan Kumprey, David Kumprey, Kris Wolf, Troy Kumprey, Daniel Kumprey, Billy Kumprey, Donna Imp, Sherry Reichert, Caryn Lee, and Chad Binder.
Frank was eternally grateful to his sister Anna, who generously gave him the gift of life through a kidney transplant in 1980. This selfless act allowed him to share 44 wonderful years with his loved ones and exemplified the strength and bonds of family. His remarkable journey was even highlighted in the Milwaukee Journal as the 500th kidney transplant, showcasing the resilience of his spirit.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and John Kumprey, and his siblings Joe (Diane) Kumprey and Anna (Jeff Trier) Reichert. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
A visitation will be held on January 13, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, at the Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Cremation Greenridge Chapel located at 4747 S. 60th Street, Greenfield, WI 53220.
As we reflect on Frank's life, let us celebrate a man whose heart was as vast as the great outdoors he loved so dearly—a man whose laughter and kindness enriched our lives and whose spirit will remain with us always.
