Surges, Ethel Lydia Born February 27, 1914 to Max and Bertha (nee Reinemann) Kratzat in Milwaukee, WI. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Married Eli George Surges on June 25, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI. Together they had 5 children. She is survived by 3 sons, James (Carol), John (Nancy) and Jeffrey (Susan) and 2 daughters, Judith (the late Carl) Filipowicz and Joan (Robert) Merner. She was a grandmother of 9, Michael, Lora, Mark, Gregory, Jennifer, Amy, Rebecca, Kathryn, Megan and 4 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Kristin and Jeffrey James. Other survivors are sisters-in-law, Ruth Lang and Eleanor Kratzat and nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, brothers-in-law, son-in-law and her husband. Ethel graduated from South Division High School in 1932 and attended the former Downer College and Miss Brown's Business School. She was a homemaker raising their children and after the death of her husband in 1964 she began a 20+ year career as a secretary at Marquette Dental School retiring at age 71 in 1985. During her lifetime she enjoyed swimming, ice skating, horseback riding, golf, bowling, sewing, knitting, crochet and other crafts. She enjoyed traveling with family members especially to casinos in her later years. She never missed watching a Packer football game. Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Harmony at Brenwood Park and Home and Health Advantage Hospice. Visitation at the Funeral Home on Monday, July 23 from 10-11am. Funeral Service at 11am.
