Enaida Alvarado

On April 2nd, 2024, Enaida Alvarado passed on from this world and onto the next portion of her journey.

Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, daughter of Celia Ortiz and Euripides Alvarado d., at the age of two she moved with her family to the mainland starting in New York and ending in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she grew up with her sisters and brothers - Euripides Jr., Adelia, Ludivina d., Nancy & Thomas.

Enaida leaves two children behind. Her son, Jon Christopher and his wife, Sasha, and their two children Aleksandra and Marcus. Her daughter Elizabeth Clara with her children Asher, Sophie, Maks d., Blair, and Alec.

Graduate of St Joan Antida High School, she started working at the US Post Office while in high school to finish paying for her education there. Then Enaida went on to start her Bachelor of Arts at University Wisconsin - Milwaukee, which she completed after taking a break for more than ten years to raise her children.

She loved gardening and took several courses at Milwaukee Area Technical College to further her horticultural knowledge.

An avid reader, when she was not working on the gardening and landscaping at her house on the East Side of Milwaukee, Enaida would spend time sitting on the porch, enjoying the fresh air and reading books she found at thrift stores or she would take out from the library.

Enaida’s career ran a fairly large range. In addition to the Post Office, she helped adults obtain their G.E.D. through several smaller organizations. She then transitioned to working for Milwaukee County in the Department of Children Services. Enaida remained with the County working in various positions until her retirement with the Department of Adult Services.

It would be impossible to name all the people that Enaida lifted up. Be it through leading an ear, providing a meal, or a place to stay.

Enadia was an avid supporter of labor unions that she was a member of and involved herself in additional activities within the organization.

Her passion for the equal rights and respect of women and children being treated well was something that Enaida instilled in her own children. And during her time on the campus of UWM she would often speak out on these issues with her fellow students.

Enaida Alvarado, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, has moved onto a better place and will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations toward a memorial for Enaida at the Boerner Botanical Gardens made directly to the garden or passed onto her son, Jon who will have a plaque placed on a tree in the garden.
