Ellen Margaret Gustavson

Gustavson, Ellen Margaret Born to eternal life on October 21, 2017 at age 75. Lovingly survived by her children Kelly (Patric) Mattek and Karl (Angela) Gustavson. Cherished grandma of Jackson, Maggie, Julia and Eric. Dear sister of Roger (Jackie) Hawtree. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wally and Margaret Hawtree; her brother, Richard Hawtree; and father to her children, Terry Gustavson. Born in San Diego, California. Known as the 'boss' of her two younger brothers. She enjoyed her younger years on the beaches of La Jolla, Mission Bay, and Old Town where her father ran the Hawtree Trading Company. Ellen attended the University of San Diego and achieved her teaching degree and eventually her Masters in Education. When she married, she moved to Williams Bay, Wisconsin to begin her family life. Her home on Rolling Lane, Lake Geneva was truly her sanctuary. Ellen raised her two children, three dogs, and six cats there over thirty years. She grew beautiful gardens, sewed intricate quilts, and prepared fish tacos and enchiladas with lots of love. Ellen taught English Literature and Senior Studies at Badger High School, Lake Geneva, retiring in 2006 after 25 years. She was a passionate reader and loved all genres, particularly thrillers with a good creep factor. Ellen became a Master Gardener in 2010 and her gardens were recognized for their creativity and design by the Master Gardener Volunteers of Walworth County in 2014. Family and friends are welcome to gather at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church (148 W. Main St., Lake Geneva, WI) on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 11AM-12:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the American Red Cross. Max A.
