Raised Catholic, Ed was interested in the seminary from a young age, pursuing this through freshman year of High School. He then graduated from Greendale High School in 1967. He continued his bible studies, found the Baptist faith, and became a Servant of the Lord on September 13, 2009. Ed was active in several bible study groups and churches over the years, most recently being a very active and visible member of First Baptist Church in Oak Creek. Ed was a Viet Nam War Era Veteran stationed in Korea, serving 1968-1970. Before and after his time in the United States Army, he worked third shift in vehicle maintenance for the United States Postal Service at the downtown Milwaukee location and retired from there. His old car collection began around 1970 with a blue 1948 Mercury Coupe, then a garnet 1937 Lincoln Zephyr. But it wasn’t long before the 1942 Mercury’s became his distinct focus. He was written about in “Old Cars Weekly” Car of the Week. He was an absolute savant, eminent for his vast knowledge of 1942 Mercury’s. Ed penned articles for many auto enthusiast outlets, including “The Sportsman Corner”, “Letters to the Editor: Ford Canada” and “Old Cars Weekly”. Ed was a member of the Lincoln Zephyr Owners Club, the National Woodie Club Inc., and belonged to the Badger State Region Early Ford V-8 Club since 1972 where Ed acted as Secretary in 2019 & Vice President until November 2021. He was also an active member of the Brewtown Cruisers Mercury Car Club (formerly Mid-Century Mercury Car Club of Kenosha Region) since 1980. Ed was a good Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend and Neighbor. He traveled extensively in relation to car collecting, and he made friends wherever he went. Ed spent a great deal of time at the neighboring libraries researching and penning his articles. The sparkle in his blue eyes is sorely missed by those who knew him. Visitation at the MAX A. SASS & SONS MISSION HILLS CHAPEL (8910 W. Drexel Ave. Franklin, WI) on Monday January 31, 2022 from 2 PM until time of services at 4 PM. Ed will have a Private Veterans burial with honors at Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove at a later date.
