Dr. Ashok K .V. Kumar, M. D. Dr. Ashok Kumar passed away in his home on May 13, 2021 at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sadhana, who passed away 3 years ago at the age of 70. Dr. Kumar was born in Mysore, India in 1948 and graduated from Mysore Medical College in 1970. He emigrated to the US in 1971, and after completing his general and vascular surgery training, established his practice in Milwaukee, where he served the community for over 40 years until retiring in 2018. He was talented, committed to his profession, and his vascular surgery skills were admired by his peers and patients alike. Dr. Kumar married Sadhana in 1976 and raised two beautiful children, Maya and Justin. Through later years, Dr. Kumar brought the same passion and commitment in caring for his wife, who battled stroke and stroke-related complications. Dr. Kumar was the first of his family to emigrate to the US, and he paved the way for his siblings to settle in the Midwest. During his professional career, Dr. Kumar served as Chief of Staff of St. Francis Hospital and as President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Beyond medicine, he had a zeal for education, serving as a Trustee for University School of Milwaukee for 7 years. In his free time Dr. Kumar enjoyed playing tennis and golf, along with spirited card games with both family and friends. He was an enthusiastic scholar who enjoyed reading biographies, history, and classical literature. He was a thoroughbred horse racing enthusiast, attending several Kentucky Derby and Breeders Cup events and serving as a valued member of the Arlington International Racecourse Turf Club. Dr. Kumar is survived by his son Justin J. Kumar, his daughter Maya Kumar (Scott Cockerham), and three doting grandchildren: Lily, Bodhi, and Abigail Cockerham. He is also survived by his four siblings and their families: his brother K. V. K. Swamy (Jacqueline Swamy) and nephew Sebastian Swamy; his sister Uma Anand (Vivek Anand), niece Dr. Chytra Anand (Ajay Karbanda) and son Arin Karbanda, and nephew Vyshakh Anand (Sheelaa Bajaj) and sons Shean and Zubbin Bajaj; his brother Dr. Gregory V. Warren (Dr. Shobha Warren) and nephews Joshua, Neil, and Ethan Warren; and his sister Mythily Khosla (Lalit Khosla) and niece Dr. Monica Rani (David Ofori-Amoah). He too leaves behind his mother-in-law, Manjula Pandit. A memorial service to honor Dr. Kumar’s life will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 4-7 pm CDT at Westmoor Country Club Grill Room and Trophy Room 400 S. Moorland Rd, Brookfield, WI 53005.
