Donald R. Barwick June 17, 1943 - March 4, 2022 Died peacefully Friday, March 4, 2022, at age 78 after a courageous battle with CKD and cancer. He was born on June 17, 1943, the son of the late Dr. George and Helene Barwick. In 1963 Donald joined the US Air Force and was stationed with the 815th Combat Defense Squadron at Forbes AFB, Topeka, Kansas. He served in Vietnam with the 619 TAC CON Squadron, Dec 10 (Peacock) in Pleiku from 1965 to 1966. Upon returning to the states and was honorably discharged, he graduated from the Milwaukee County General Hospital School of Radiologic Technology. Donald and Roxanna "Roxie" (nee Sharp) were married in Topeka on May 27, 1967. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Roxie, brother Earl (Judy) Barwick, nephews Wesley and James Barwick. He was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew Christopher Barwick. He joined the Air Force Reserve in 1970 and later enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He was first Sergeant of the 135th Medical Unit on Richards Street and transferred to the 13th Evac Hospital in Madison as Sergeant Major in 1984 and attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major August 23, 1986. After he retired from the Milwaukee VA Medical Center (Zablocki) in 2007, and in September he volunteered as an x-ray technician with HEAL Africa, a teaching hospital in Goma in the eastern Congo which provides healthcare for women. Donald was an active lifetime member of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) and Wisconsin National Guard Enlisted Association (WNGEA) -- the only organization dedicated to the National Guard enlisted members. He also enjoyed numismatics. Services will be held on Friday March 11, at 11:30 AM, at the Forest Home Cemetery Landmark Chapel, 2405 W Forest Home Ave, Milwaukee, WI. with visitation from 10 AM until time of service. Entombment at the Hall of History, Forest Home Cemetery.
