David Drake The man. The myth. The legend. David Matthew Drake lost his battle with cancer on February 21, 2019, and will forever be known as DJ Bigtime, or as his clients referred to him, “The G.O.A.T.” (The Greatest of All Time). David is lovingly remembered by his wife of 6 years, Susan, and his children, Matthew, Jacob, Laura, and little David. He will also be fondly remembered by his mother, Aileen Smith, sister, Sara (James) Mahaffey, father-in-law, Joseph (Maryruth) Burkart, sister-in-law, Jennifer Burkart, brother-in-law, Thomas (Erin) Burkart, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. David was predeceased by his dad, Donald Drake, his step-father, James Smith, and beloved daughter, Mary Aileen Drake (“Maddie”). Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 1, 1968, David showed an early interest in sports and music followed by an extensive brave military service in the US Navy, Army, Minnesota National Guard, and Wisconsin National Guard, to areas like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He earned numerous honors and medals including (4) National Defense Service Medals, (3) Sea Service Deployment Ribbons with One Bronze Star, (3) Southwest Asia Service Medals with Two Bronze Stars, (3) Kuwait Liberation Medals, (3) Humanitarian Service Medals, (2) Navy Unit Commendation Ribbons, (2) Rifle M-16 MM Qualifications, (2) Minnesota Good Conduct Ribbons, (2) Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medals, (1) Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, (1) Army Service Ribbon, (1) Army Lapel Button, and (1) Minnesota State Active Duty Ribbon. David pursed an Associate Degree in Radio Broadcasting from Brown College. If you knew David, you know that David’s love for music was infectious and your guests would be entertained and have amazing memories for years to come at any event that he was privileged to DJ, whether it was for Complete Music, Vital Image Wedding Studios, or when David started his DJ business as Big Time Mobile Entertainment. David was also involved in theatrical productions like Pirates of Penzance, Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, Bye Bye Birdie, and he played Earth Quake Lagoon in Li’l Abner. His interest in the arts did not end there; he also had a passion for creating new culinary masterpieces and sharing them with friends and family. If you have had his Wild Mushroom Risotto, you know what we’re talking about! David was actively involved in different areas at Oak Creek Assembly of God. He was an inspirational part of the bass section in the choir and enjoyed his involvement in various ensembles and taking part in their Broadway style musical productions using both his singing and dramatic flair. David was involved in jump-starting Men’s Ministries and helped coordinate events like the chili cook-off that benefited the Royal Rangers program, the spaghetti dinner, and Men’s Breakfast. A celebration of David’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Oak Creek Assembly of God, 7311 S. 13th Street, Oak Creek, WI 53154, with Pastor Jon Brooks officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the celebration service from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. We would like to thank Max A. Sass & Sons for assisting with the arrangements.
