David Lee Woznicki

April 21, 1940 — June 10, 2024

David Lee Woznicki, “Butchie”, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world in an unexpected accident at the age of 84 on June 10, 2024, in Franklin, WI. Dave was one of 13 children, born on April 21, 1940, in Hatley, WI, to Charles and Pearl (nee Neuendank) Woznicki. Dave’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his service, his faith, and his passions.

Dave served his country when he was drafted into the United States Army from 1963 to 1969, a period that helped shape his character and dedication to others. After his military service, he continued his commitment to community safety as a Milwaukee Police Officer, serving from 1967 until his retirement in 1993. To compliment his career, Dave completed an Associate Degree in Police Science from MATC. Dave protected and served his community with honor and distinction, earning the respect and

admiration of his colleagues and those he helped along the way. Even long after retirement, one of his favorite things was sharing his many outrageous stories of his time as an officer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carole (nee Joslyn), his devoted sons David Jr. (Kelly) and Rick (Jill), and his daughter-in-law, Claire. Dave's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Bethany, Bennett, Isaac, Alana, and Eve, who will remember him for his funny and generous nature. He always kept his family laughing through his playfulness and sense of humor. His siblings Bonnie, Donna, Donald, Debra, and Mary will forever cherish memories of their brother Butchie. He is further survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, other loved relatives, and friends. His spirited personality kept family and friends wondering what he would say next. Dave was preceded in death by his beloved son, Rodney, his parents, and siblings Florian, Sally, Charlotte, James, Gerald, Charles Jr., and Walter. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and they are now reunited in eternal peace.

Beyond his work and service, Dave was a man of many interests and talents. He had a passion for working with wood, often known for chainsaw carving and creating pieces such as bears and eagles that brought joy to others. Dave's love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for deer hunting and his appreciation for the simple pleasure of building campfires. Animals held a special place in his heart, and he never met an animal who didn’t love and trust him, and at one time he even gave a bull a belly rub! He was especially loved by his grand-dog Chloe, and she will miss him dearly.

A man who was always willing to lend a hand, Dave was always available when family or friends needed help or support with projects. He never turned down an invitation to family activities, cherishing every moment spent with loved ones. Dave had a passion for rummaging and collecting treasures that he would lovingly pass on to his family, ensuring that his finds brought joy to others. Dave's love for his local sports teams was evident in his lifelong support of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. His tenure as a police officer included patrolling countless games at County Stadium, an experience that combined his love for community service with his passion for football and baseball.

Dave lived a life marked by service, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family and his Catholic faith. He was a remarkable man and we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the countless memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who were fortunate enough to know him. As Dave would say, “Hail Mary”, and “May the Perpetual Light Shine Upon You”.
