Darryl "Joey" Niemiec, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, in his hometown of Milwaukee, WI. Born on April 3, 1952, in Milwaukee, to David and Henrietta Niemiec. Darryl was the oldest of his siblings and will be missed by Dale (Bonni) Niemiec and Dee (Dennis) Zirzow as well as brother-in-law Larry Mackowski and Sister-in-law Sue (Ken Yunker) Mackowski. Darryl's life was marked by his commitment to his family, his passion for his work, and his love for life's simple pleasures.
Darryl graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1970. He went on to earn a degree from Marquette University, which paved the way for a successful career as a mechanical engineer with Universal Foods, where he dedicated 30 years of service. After a fulfilling career, he continued working at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport as a TSA agent for 10 years before his well-deserved retirement.
Married to his beloved wife, Diane, for nearly 49 years, Darryl's life was a testament to love and devotion. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Cristy Niemiec and Jeff (Angela) Niemiec, who brought them immense joy and pride. Darryl's role as a grandfather to Jula and Maelyn was one of his greatest joys, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
For 48 years, he eagerly anticipated his annual trips to Eagle River—a tradition that brought him peace and happiness. An avid Green Bay Packers fan, he never missed a game, celebrating each victory with the same zest as if it were the first. His love for reading, especially science fiction, allowed him to explore far-off worlds and adventures from the comfort of his favorite chair.
Music filled Darryl's home and heart. He believed that music was the soundtrack to life's narrative and enjoyed sharing this love with those around him. Darryl's legacy is one of kindness, laughter, quick wit, and the joy of everyday moments. His presence was a warm and steady force that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Darryl's life will be celebrated by his family and friends, who will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he instilled in them—love, integrity, and the importance of family. Darryl Niemiec's story is not one of goodbye, but one of gratitude for the time shared, the memories made, and the love that endures.
In honor of Darryl's love for Green Bay Packers, all are welcome to wear their favorite Packer apparel.
