Colleen Rose Hefter, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024, in her hometown of Milwaukee, at the age of 78. Born on July 06, 1945, to the late Alfred A. and Cecilia R. Nystrom, Colleen's life was a testament to the power of selflessness and love.
A proud graduate of Messmer High School, class of 1963. Colleen dedicated 35 years of service to the banking industry, her career evolving alongside the transitions from Marine Bank to Bank One, and eventually J.P. Morgan Chase. Her commitment to her community was further exemplified through her work with United Way during their seasonal campaign.
Colleen's personal life was rich with love and joy. She was the cherished wife of her late husband, Lloyd with whom she shared 24 beautiful years before his passing. Together, they raised two daughters, Amy E. Hefter (Timothy Banse) and Anne M. Hefter (fiancée Alexis Fielek), who were the light of her life. Her role as a mother was one she embraced with warmth.
Her siblings, Kathleen (Ed) Alloy and the late Alfred Thomas “Tommy” Nystrom, shared in the many treasured memories that Colleen created throughout her life. She was a beloved sister and confidante, always there to offer support and a listening ear. Colleen's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, and Aidan, who will forever remember their grandmother's love and the gentle guidance.
Colleen's creative spirit shone through her many interests. She crafted beautiful pieces of jewelry and was known for her skill in counted cross stitch. Her Christmas cut-out cookies were legendary, eagerly anticipated by family and friends each holiday season. Colleen also found joy in stamping and making greeting cards, a pastime she often shared with friends, creating not just cards but lasting memories.
Those who knew Colleen will remember her kindness, generosity, and selflessness. She was the kind of person who made everyone around her feel valued, her gentle spirit and compassionate nature leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of all she encountered.
As we bid farewell to Colleen, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with her. She taught us through example the importance of putting others before oneself, and her memory will serve as a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her.
Colleen’s life will be celebrated by her loving family, cherished friends, and all those who were touched by her presence and contagious laugh. Her spirit, a blend of strength and tenderness, will live on in the stories told, the lessons passed down, and the love she so freely gave.
In her passing, Colleen leaves behind a legacy of love, a family united, and a community that recognizes the difference one individual can make. She will be deeply missed.
