Cheryl L. Gaszak (Nee Gnat) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the age of 68. Cheryl passed away at Zilber Family Hospice following a long struggle with a glioblastoma, an aggressive inoperable brain tumor. She fought the entirety of her battle at home with the support of her loving husband and daughters. In her final days Cheryl was transferred to Zilber for care. Though she is no longer with us, we are relieved to know that she is finally at peace. Cheryl was born December 10th, 1953, to Ervin and Lillian (aka Bili) Gnat. Cheryl was brought up heavily involved in the Polish National Catholic Church (PNCC) thanks primarily to her parents who served in various positions within the parish committee. In addition to her parents, her uncle also contributed to her passion for the church as he was the Right Reverend Bishop Thomas J. Gnat. These influences help guide Cheryl’s journey and commitment in life. On October 15th, 1977, Cheryl married David A. Gaszak in Milwaukee, WI. In a few short years they started a family. She was constantly behind the camera taking family portraits and candid snapshots. Cheryl and David would go on to discover new family interests including yearly camping vacations and road-trips out west, experiencing new cultures and making new friends. Throughout her life, Cheryl always had a love for animals, big and small, and ventured into horse showing. Cheryl lived a life full of many different experiences, cultural diversity, and friends. Cheryl is survived by her husband David A. Gaszak; their two daughters Becky (James) Shafstall and Jodi Gaszak; her grandchildren Elsa, Irene, and Sophie Shafstall; and her sister Barbara (Ted Wosika) Gnat. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Lillian (Nee Vaclav) Gnat. A memorial gathering will be held at Max A Sass & Sons – Greenridge Chapel on Saturday March 5th. Visitation will be at 10am with a memorial service at 11am and a luncheon to follow.
