Charles Clement Johanneck (Charlie) age 72 Born: January 15, 1942 Thief River Falls, MN Died: May 19, 2014 Heritage Court Memory Care, West Allis, WI Charlie, the oldest of nine children was born to the late Clement Johanneck and Marietta (Willett) Johanneck. Charlie attended school in Red Lake Falls, MN at St. Joseph's School where he completed 8th grade, and then Lafayette High School where he graduated with the class of 1960. After high school he attended two years of seminary, one year in Richardton, ND, and another year in Onamia, MN. Charlie and Gloria (Arel) were married November 30, 1963 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2013. Charlie and Gloria raised six children, who gave them twelve grandchildren. All through high school, Charlie worked summers on his Uncle Sylvester Johanneck's farm. He worked at American Crystal Sugar Company, and drove bus for Triangle Bus, in Crookston, MN. Charlie and Gloria, along with their three children, moved to Oak Creek, where they had three more children. His Uncle John Johanneck helped him get his first job at Sedlet Plumbing and Heating. After a year he got a job with Tom Kuehne at The Kuehne Company, where he worked for the next 34 years, the last 10 of which he was an owner. He worked all over the state of Wisconsin putting in guardrail, putting up freeway signs and doing state highway work. Charlie was dedicated to his Catholic faith throughout his life. First he was an altar boy, then later he was a member of Parish Council. He also taught Religious Education classes, and helped with retreats for Confirmation classes. Charlie had a love for travel. He camped frequently with his family. Charlie and Gloria traveled to many places together, including The Rocky Mountains and Glacier, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Yellowstone National Parks. They also traveled to Canada to explore Banff and Jasper National Parks. They loved Disney World, spent time in Hawaii, and cruised through the Panama Canal. They made a pilgrimage to Israel in 2009. Charlie dreamed of driving to Alaska, and after he retired in 2002 he and Gloria took a two month trip though Canada and Alaska. Charlie is survived by his loving, devoted wife Gloria (nee Arel) Johanneck of South Milwaukee, WI; his children: Lisa (Richard) Migacz of South Milwaukee; Leigh (Cindy) of Ashburn, Virginia; Patricia (Brian) Jones of South Milwaukee; Paul (Dawn) of Milwaukee; Mark (Jessie) of Madison; Kristin (Sarah Moskonas) of Milwaukee. Grandchildren: Betsy and Casey Migacz; Zachary and Nathan Johanneck; Paris Boyd, Charlie Bigelow and Jackson Jones; Olivia, Sophie and Isabelle Johanneck; Harvey and Theodore Moskonas-Johanneck. Siblings: Marie (Ben) Metselaar of Seven Sister Falls, Manitoba; Patricia (Ambrose) Giesen of Cold Spring, MN; sister-in-law Brenda Johanneck of Deer River, MN; Sharon (Virgil) White of Hixton, WI; Janice (Mike) Piwaron of South Milwaukee; Roger (Michelle) Johanneck of Red Lake Falls, MN; and Theresa Palmer of Cold Spring, MN; son-in-law to Vivian Arel of Crookston, MN; brother-in-law to Barbara Tesh of Kernersville, NC; Ken (Barbara) Arel of Pine Island, MN; Daniel (Lorna) Arel of Dilworth, MN; further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Charlie is preceded in death by an infant daughter Elizabeth (1972); his father Clem (1982); his sister Barbara Johanneck (2003); his mother, Marietta (2004); his father-in-law Harvey Arel (2008); his brother Michael Johanneck (2013). A special thank you to the staff at Heritage Court Memory Care, in West Allis, and Hometown Hospice for the compassionate care they gave Charlie. Visitation Friday May 23, 2014 from 3-7 pm with a vigil service at 7 pm at the Max A. Sass & Sons South Shore Chapel. Additional visitation Saturday May 24, 2014 from 10-10:45 am at Divine Mercy Catholic Church (800 Marquette Avenue, South Milwaukee) with a mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
