Catherine M. Markus-Saunders

Catherine M. Markus Saunders, age 55, of South Milwaukee, WI, passed away unexpectedly on December 08, 2020. Cathy grew up in the Chicago suburbs and then lived in Chicago while working at a law firm there. During that time, she met and married the love of her life, Michael Saunders, who at the time worked as a chef. Cathy and Mike moved to Milwaukee in 2010. As a child of the 1970s, Cathy always loved 70s music—especially classic rock and funk (Parliament was a favorite band). She enjoyed writing short stories and poems, and she collected Japanese dolls. A favorite vacation spot was the Wisconsin Dells. She loved animals and over the years had turtles, gerbils, and a succession of spoiled cats. Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Mike; her siblings Trish Markus (Brian Dobbins) of Raleigh, NC and Michael Markus (Carly Johnson) of Montgomery, AL, her aunt Joanne Ator (of Baileys Harbor, WI), and her cousins Gail (of Minneapolis, MN) and Joe (of Fort Lauderdale, FL) Hughes. Survivors also include her beloved cats Leslie and Sparkles, along with other family and friends. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Leslie Markus. Cathy will be deeply missed by all her family and her husband Mike. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
