Carole J. Hanlon

January 22, 1942 — June 24, 2024

Carole Jean Hanlon, a cherished beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, at the age of 82 in Muskego, Wisconsin. Born on January 22, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, Carole's life was a testament to her enduring kindness, her passion for education, and her unwavering faith.

Carole's journey began as the bright-eyed daughter of her beloved parents in Peoria. Her academic pursuits led her to Eastern Illinois University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. This was the foundation upon which she built a career dedicated to nurturing young minds. Carole's professional path was marked by her tenure as a nursery school teacher at ABC Nursery in Morton, which she owned with pride. Her commitment to children's development shone brightly as she served as an interventionist at Easter Seals and as an elementary teacher in Michigan. Carole's versatility and love for teaching were evident as she inspired students in art and physical education at Pleasant Valley School in Peoria County, and later as a Baby Talk interventionist with Woodford County Special Education.

Beyond the classroom, Carole's influence extended through her active involvement in various organizations. Her community spirit was palpable as she engaged with the Junior Women's Club, The Kidney Benefit, Awana Club, Vacation Bible School, and the Morton Pumpkin Festival, where she contributed to the Princess Pageant and Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Carole's dedication to these causes was a reflection of her generous heart and her desire to foster a sense of unity and joy within her community.

Carole's life was rich with interests that brought color and creativity to her world and to those around her. A lover of the arts, she found solace and expression in clay art classes, painting, and weaving. Her artistic talents were a source of great personal fulfillment and an inspiration to others. Carole's enthusiasm for life extended to the sidelines, where she was a constant presence at her grandchildren's swim meets, soccer games, and dance recitals. Her support was unwavering, and her pride in their achievements knew no bounds.

Carole's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted daughter, Shawn D. Whitman of Waterford, Wisconsin, and her son, Christopher R. Hanlon of Mapleton, Illinois, along with their respective spouses, James and Cindy. Her brother, Dennis C. Lipp, with his wife Dorren Baxter of Jacksonville, Florida, also survives her. Carole's joy was multiplied by her cherished grandchildren, Kelsey Peterson (Wesley), Lauren Whitman, Hannah Whitman, Sarah Whitman, Brogan Hanlon, and Ethan Upton. Her great-grandchildren, Stanley Peterson and Charlotte Jean Peterson, brought her immeasurable happiness in her later years.

Carole's faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a strong Christian woman, she lived her beliefs through her actions, her kindness, and her unwavering support of nonprofit and military organizations. Carole's spirit will continue to guide and comfort those who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we bid farewell to Carole Jean Hanlon, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love, education, and faith that will continue to resonate for generations to come. Her memory will be held in the hearts of all who were touched by her gracious spirit and generous nature. Carole's journey on this earth has ended, but her story will be recounted with smiles and fondness, as we remember a life truly well-lived.
