Carmello C. "Carmen" Caputa, a cherished pillar of the Milwaukee community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 5, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on August 28, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carmen lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a storied career, and a passion for sports that inspired many.
Carmen was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1950. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident early on and remained steadfast throughout his life. After graduation, Carmen began a long and rewarding career at Pabst Brewery, where he worked in maintenance for nearly half a century. His colleagues remember him as a man who took pride in his work and brought joy and camaraderie to the workplace.
Outside of his professional life, Carmen was a formidable athlete. He was a golden glove-winning pro boxer who apprenticed under the tutelage of the World Featherweight Champion, Sammy Angott. His courage and sportsmanship in the ring were mirrored in all aspects of his life.
Carmen was a man of many interests. He loved to dance and took lessons and was really light on his feet. He had a deep love for bowling, a sport he enthusiastically pursued, and he cherished vacationing and spending quality time with his family. His presence at family gatherings was a source of happiness and warmth, particularly when surrounded by his adoring children and their extended families.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 32 years, Sharen Lutz-Caputa, and the mother of his boys, Patricia Rancatti. Carmen was a loving father to John (Ann), Chuck (Laurie), Joseph (Valerie), Santo (Elaine), Carmello (Kathy), Tony, and Carl. He was a cherished stepfather to Ronnie and Debbie Ziebell, and to Susan (Kenneth) Lane and Stacey (Jake) Jinks. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the lessons of kindness and love he instilled in them.
Carmen was the brother of the late Joseph (Karen) Caputa, John (Amy) Caputa, and Marie (Dave) Damazyn. His life's journey was also enriched by the company of numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will fondly remember his loving and kind nature.
Those who knew Carmen would describe him as a courageous, loving, loyal, and Gentle-hearted man. His strength and gentle spirit were the foundations upon which his family was built, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.
Carmen's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his memory will be honored and celebrated as a testament to a life well-lived. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we are comforted by the countless happy memories and the enduring impact he has had on all our lives.
Carmen's story is one of resilience, love, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. He will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught us through his actions and the love he shared will never be forgotten.
