Benjamin P. Langer

Benjamin Peter Langer, a devoted husband, father, brother, and esteemed member of the law enforcement community, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023. Born on November 15, 1973, in Texas, Benjamin grew to embody the spirit of courage and dedication that would define his life's work and relationships.


Affectionately known as Ben to his friends and family, he moved to New Berlin, Wisconsin. He would marry the love of his life, Elizabeth and together, they came together as a beautiful family, including their children Sydney, Sydney, Mia and Brody, who brought immense joy and pride to Ben's life.


Ben graduated from New Berlin West High School in 1992, after which he committed himself to a life of service, laying the foundation for what would become a distinguished career in public safety.


Graduating from the MATC Police Academy, Ben began his law enforcement career in Hales Corners and Fox Point Police Departments as a dispatcher, then moving to Waterford Police Department as an Officer. In 2001 he joined the City of New Berlin Police Department, where he rose through the ranks to become a respected Sergeant. Ben was not only a leader within his department but also served as Field Trainer and leader of the department awards and equipment committees. A Graduate of Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command, Ben was the team leader for both the City of New Berlin SWAT Team and the Suburban Critical Incident Team (SCIT). His commitment to combating drug-related crimes led him to become an integral member of the DEA Task Force and the Waukesha County Metro Drug Unit, further exemplifying his unwavering commitment to justice and the well-being of his community.


Ben's life was not solely defined by his career. He was a spirited man, with an infectious love for life that he shared with everyone around him. He loved traveling to warm weather climates and spending time on the beach. Often times you would find Ben sharing photos to friends back in Wisconsin of his tropical beach vacations with Elizabeth and their family.


Those who knew Ben will remember him for his loving nature and courageous heart. He was a man who faced challenges with determination and always sought to uplift and protect others. His legacy is one of selflessness, bravery, and an unyielding devotion to the service of others.


Ben is survived by his cherished wife, Elizabeth (nee Mitchell), his adored children Sydney, Sydney, Mia, and Brody and his supportive brothers Chad (Elizabeth), Denny (Michelle), and Luke. He also leaves behind his caring step-mother, Wendy Langer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Dianne, whose memory and values he honored throughout his life.


Benjamin Peter Langer lived a life full of purpose, love, and heroism. His passing is a profound loss to all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he touched. He will be remembered not only for the lives he saved and the community he served but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to all. Benjamin's story is not one of sadness, but rather a celebration of a life well-lived and a man deeply loved, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he impacted.


A Celebration of Ben’s life will be held on Friday January 26, 2024 from 3 pm until 8 pm at the Max A. Sass & Sons Mission Hills Chapel.
