Barbara Lucille Hintz (Nee Drewniak)

September 27, 1936 — January 8, 2021

Barbara Lucille Hintz (nee Drewniak), age 84, of South Milwaukee, WI, passed away peacefully holding her children's hands on January 8, 2021. Barbara is survived by her loving children Patrick and Holly (Gary Coin) Hintz; her grandchildren Lauren and Emmet; her brother James (Ann) Drewniak along with nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband James of 20 years and her parents Eugene and Charlotte. Barbara and James married in 1964. He served in the U.S Army and after returning from service he eventually started a career at the U.S. Postal Service in Milwaukee. Barbara graduated from Pulaski High School in 1954 where she stayed very active with the reunion committee. They celebrated yearly starting with the 30th reunion and ended with a big 65th reunion in 2019. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Marquette University and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. Her second career was as a market research specialist. Yes, she was one of those callers who asked you to do a telephone survey. For anyone who knew Barbara, they knew she loved to talk, so it really was a fitting job for her! Barbara was a devout Roman Catholic attending church at St. Anthony's in Milwaukee, St. Adalbert's and Divine Mercy in South Milwaukee. Barbara was a proud, active, life-long Democrat. She ran for a seat on the South Milwaukee Common Council in the early 1970s. Unfortunately, she was not elected but that did not stop her passion for politics. Barbara was the chief poll worker for the city of South Milwaukee for over 10 years. She was active in the Milwaukee County Democratic party attending numerous Wisconsin state democratic conventions. She attended four Democratic National Conventions, two as a delegate: 1992 (New York) and 1996 (Chicago) for Bill Clinton, 2000 (Los Angeles) for Al Gore and 2004 (Boston) for John Kerry. She also had the special privilege of attending Bill Clinton's 1993 Inauguration in Washington D.C. For all her dedication to the Democratic party, she was selected as the Milwaukee County Democratic Party Democrat of the Year in 1996. Barbara loved to travel and attend plays and musicals as a member of the Vagabonds and Kelly Travel Club. Over the years Barbara and her friends attended well over 200 different events. Barbara was a huge sports fan. She loved to watch the Packers, Brewers and Marquette Warriors. She had the opportunity to take her children to the Rose Bowl in 1999 when the Wisconsin Badgers defeated UCLA. She also traveled to San Diego with her daughter for the Packers Super Bowl game. Barbara became a very proud Granny in 2004 and 2007. She loved and adored her grandchildren and the times she was able to spend with them as they lived out of state. One of the best family memories was taking the whole family to the Disney theme parks and on a Disney cruise. Barbara had a huge, warm, spunky personality and she will be missed immensely by her children, son-in-law, grandchildren, family and friends A visitation will be held at Max A Sass & Sons Funeral Home - South Shore Chapel (1314 Manitoba Ave, South Milwaukee) on Sunday, January 17 from 2 pm until 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Divine Mercy Parish (800 Marquette Ave, South Milwaukee) on Tuesday, January 19 at 11 am. A private family burial will take place at Wood National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name can be made to Divine Mercy for Masses.
