Arlyn Ann Meier (née Kujath), 95, peacefully passed away on April 18, 2023, after a long life filled with challenges and many blessings. She lived in the home that she loved for more than sixty years, raising two children, and sharing her home with a succession of beloved dogs. Arlyn was preceded in death by her three husbands, Willard Schmidt, Herbert Tygesson, and Walter Meier. She was also preceded in death by her brother Allen and his wife June Kujath.
Arlyn loved to try new things and to make new friends. Some of her hobbies and activities included tap dancing, watercolor painting, singing in the Jordan Chorale, and playing bells in St. John’s bell choir. She also volunteered at Elmbrook Hospital and the Elmbrook Historical Society. Arlyn traveled the world, including Australia and China. She made many dear friends through these travel adventures.
Mother’s faith community, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Brookfield, was an integral part of her life. In her later years, Pastor Brian Halverson and a dedicated group of church members helped support her, especially after macular degeneration made it impossible for Arlyn to continue driving. Our thanks go out to everyone who made it possible for Arlyn to remain in her beloved home for as long as possible.
Arlyn is survived by her two children, Rand (Steven Sanders) Schmidt and Kari Schmidt (dear friend Karen Jakubowski); her nephew Mark (Nancy) Kujath, and niece Jan (Jeff) Zabel. She is also survived by the Berglunds, her “adopted family” and by special friend, Dolores Spapperi. A special thanks to the caring staff at the Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, WI.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 20275 W. Davidson Rd. Brookfield, WI. Visitation 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.; Service at 11 a.m. Private entombment at Forest Home Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Elmbrook Historical Society, or Wisconsin Humane Society would be appreciated.
