Andrew Richard Zinkl passed away in September at a rehabilitation center in Milwaukee at the age of 73. He was born to this life on July 14, 1942 in Milwaukee. He graduated from Campion High School in Prairie du Chien and earned a Bachelor's degree in History from Marquette University, where he met his future wife, Bonnie Moira Fogarty, also a Marquette graduate, at a basketball game. He worked at the Milwaukee Journal briefly before enrolling in a Master's program in History at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his first Master's degree with a thesis on the history of labor movement in Milwaukee during World War I shortly before marrying in 1968, and went to work for the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In 1972, he earned his second Master's degree, in Library Science, from the University of WisconsinMilwaukee. He returned to the Milwaukee School of Engineering as a Librarian briefly before accepting job as a Reference Librarian at the University of WisconsinGreen Bay, in 1974, where served for nearly 23 years, retiring in 1997. He was active in the community giving presentations on his hobbies of numismatics and Russian history and known on campus for helping students and faculty make maximum use of the Cofrin Library's considerable holdings. He later returned to Milwaukee where he reinvigorated the elementary school library at Blessed Sacrament Parish and maintained their collection of early readers to middle grade fiction for ten years as a volunteer. He is survived by one daughter, Diana Marie, and was preceded in death (1996) by his wife, Bonnie Fogarty-Zinkl.
