Boszhardt, Andrew Krebs Andy "Gump" Boszhardt passed away at home on Feb 21, 2010 at the age of 87. He was born to William and Nell (Krebs) Boszhardt on May 2, 1922. William was a successful jeweler and built a house in Shorewood, where Andy spent his early childhood with his sister Mary. In the late 1920's, just before the stock market crash, William purchased Muskego Beach Amusement Park and the family moved to the rural shores of Little Muskego Lake. Through his teens, Andy worked at the park and became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Cudahy High School where he played guard on the football team, performed in theater, and achieved National Honor Society status. He enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, just before the start of World War II. At Madison, Andy met Maxie Mae Smith at a dance in Memorial Union, fell in love and courted her as he enlisted with the US Navy, becoming a Marine pilot. During the war, he served in the Pacific Theater flying transport planes and attained the rank of Captain. He and Maxie married in Madison on July 2, 1945. At the conclusion of the war, they graduated together as Badgers and began a family that grew to eight children. They initially resided in a cottage on Boszhardt Lane in Muskego, where he served as President of the Muskego Lions Club in 1952. As the family grew, they moved to West Allis, ultimately building their dream house in Greendale in 1960. While supporting and raising the family he oversaw all eight children graduate from Greendale High. During this period he served as Scout Master for Troop 505 and was recognized by the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver award. Andy worked his entire career at Allis-Chalmers in West Allis, rising to Sales Manager, and serving as Chairman of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Institute of Mining Engineers. He retired in 1986, shortly before the breakup of the company, but later served as Treasurer of the AC Retiree "Big Timers" Club. In retirement Andy enjoyed golf, gardening, and reading. He also volunteered with the Greendale Public Schools for 10 years as a tutor for special education kids and became a "Reading Buddy" mentor for first graders at College Park Elementary School. He also served as Secretary of Greendale's Youth Memorial Building and volunteered with St. Alphonsus church as a member of the Parrish Council, Chairman of the Welcoming Committee, and with the Employment Network. In 1986 he completed a comprehensive autobiography. After 30 years of marriage, Maxie passed in 1975. Andy became a single parent, remarried briefly, and later moved to his final home in Greendale. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Douglas, and sister (Mary Slater).
