Alice E Hammer

Hammer, Alice E. Alice Evans Hammer, 93, passed to eternal life on February 14, 2015. In more recent years, she was a resident of Fort Atkinson, Greendale, Muskego and Waukesha. Alice was born in 1921, in Kevil, Kentucky, to Rev. Samuel and Ina Evans and enjoyed growing up on a farm with her brothers and sisters, Samuel, Daniel, Sarah, Louis, Anna Lee and James Maurice. After she graduated from Murray State University, she began teaching elementary school. She received a Masters Degree from the University of Kentucky in Louisville. Later, she taught at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines where she met Kenneth Hammer whom she married in 1955. Alice was a much-loved first grade teacher in Fort Atkinson for 16 years. In retirement, she and Kenneth enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with their grandchildren. Alice was most recently a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Waukesha. She consistently enjoyed Pastor Jeff Pennington's sermons and was "Grandma" to the church members. She is survived by her sons, Steven (Jodi) and Randall (Margaret), her grandchildren, Teresa, Kristen, Susan (Neil) Greenwald and Samuel. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, and her husband. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 17 at Max A. Sass & Sons Westwood Chapel. Visitation at 6PM and funeral service at 6:30 followed by refreshments and sharing of memories. A private burial service will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove. Alice will be remembered as a woman who both lived life and faced death well. She was an inspiration to family, friends and caregivers. She felt she had much for which to be thankful and was ready to rejoin many friends and family in heaven in the presence of her Savior.
