Algis Anthony Kapocius “Al” Born in 1935. Entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Son of the late George and Fili Kapocius. Brother of Vytautas “Vyto” Kapocius. Uncle of Michael Kapocius, Timothy Kapocius, Kara Waddell, Thomas Kapocius, and Mark Kapocius. Great – uncle of Molly, Libby, Carly, Kyle, Ross, Ryan, Jolie, Ella, Nicolas, Keegan and Kennedy. Cousin of Ruth Mandela of Racine, Mary Whitman of Des Moines, Anne Hindt of Clive, Iowa, and many other cousins in Lithuania. Al was a graduate of Racine Washington Park High School Class of 1953 and studied Chemical Engineering at UW-Madison, gradiating in 1958. He then had a 4 year enlistment in the US Navy Officer Candidate School. He was stationed at the US Naval Station, Newport Rhode Island, as an officer Candidate Seaman Apprentice (OCSA). He was sent to San Diego to serve on the USS Ozbourn (DD846). He traveled to Japan, Hawaii, Philippines, Singapore, Australia and the South Pacific, where he was able to see the Southern Cross. His service was to be completed in 1961, but was extended due to the Berlin Crisis. After the Navy, he worked in process management for a number of years, including AC Delco in Oak Creek, retiring in 1992. He was a proficient wood worker and a long time sailor, with a boat kept in McKinley Marina. He lived in Greendale since 1985 and was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish. He was very proud of his Lithuanian heritage and his US Navy service. Special thanks to the caregivers at Zilber Hospice and his helpers Mary Kay Durnin and Kerry Kapocius. Visitation at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 6060 W. Loomis Rd., on Tuesday, July 26 from 10 – 10:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Private burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Racine.
