April A. Melk (nee Hagemeyer), age 47, passed away after a short battle with the ovarian cancer on January 17th, 2024.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years Tony Melk and Ruby their red Labrador. Also survived by her father Jon Hagemeyer, sister Jackie (Scott), mother-in-law Brenda Melk (like a second mother), brother-in-law Tim (Chrystal), nephews Waylon Black and Thomas and Henry Melk. She is further survived by many aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends she called family.
April was born March 12th 1976, in Milwaukee, WI to Jon and Tamara (nee Braun) Hagemeyer. She graduated from Pius XI Highschool in 1995 and attended the University of Milwaukee. She met the love of her life in high school and never looked back! April and Tony were set to celebrate their 18th anniversary this year. He loved her and stood by her side until the end.
April was a proud aunt to Waylon, Thomas and Henry. She loved them and was a constant support and presence in their lives. She loved Waylon as if he were her own. They shared a love for snoopy and finding the best ice cream shops in cities they visited, whether in Minnesota, Wisconsin or adventuring around the U.S. She made every adventure truly amazing.
April always looked forward to her walks with Ruby and Tony by Lake Michigan. They would travel to other lakes and parks throughout Wisconsin for new smells and adventures. She loves the West Allis Farmers Market wandering the aisles and enjoying the day. But her real joy came from growing her own vegetables, in her own beautiful, full garden. I’m sure if you knew April, you can image all the shenanigans Tony can get into with one of her giant zucchini’s!
April also loved to travel with her cherished husband Tony and amazing tribe of friends. She always got a hell of a deal on the flight and excursions! Did you want snacks on that trip? April always had snacks. Boat, beach or plane you are covered.
April is preceded in death by her mother Tamara (nee Braun) Hagemeyer, father-in-law Robert Melk , and grandfathers Jackson Wayne Hagemeyer and Sidney Braun.
The family thanks the amazing nurses and care team at Froedert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.
