Alan Russell Hansis Profile Photo

Alan returned to the Lord peacefully on June 19, 2018. He was born November 30, 1937 to the late Russell Hansis and Mildred (Hogle) Hansis in Kenosha, WI. Alan is lovingly survived by his wife Carol (Rogowski) Hansis. He is also survived by his children Karen (Glenn) Larson and John (Laura) Hansis. Alan is preceded in death by his daughter Joan Hansis Gordy. Alan was a proud grandpa of Tom "Tommy (Nicole) Gordy, Alyssa Gordy, Sarah (Fianc Ben Reynolds) Larson, Andrew Larson, Anna Hansis and Marcus Hansis. Dear brother of Carol (Terry) Berrong. He will also be missed by his special companion Willi his dachshund. Alan and Carol were married on June 25, 1960 in Milwaukee, WI where they made their home until retirement and became residents of Estero, Florida. Alan graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with both Bachelors and Masters degrees. He started his career teaching social studies at Kosciuszko Middle School in Milwaukee. After receiving his Masters degree he worked at South Milwaukee High School as a guidance counselor until he retired in 1995. Alan and Carol spent their summers in Wisconsin, mostly in Hancock, until 2015 when they moved their summer home to Rhinelander. Alan loved history, especially World War II history. Both being history buffs, Alan and Carol traveled extensively. Their travels took them on many trips to Europe but also had the opportunity recently to take trips to Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. Alan had a huge love of trains and street cars. He would take any opportunity to visit places with trains and take train trips. Alan loved spending time with his grandkids. He was famous for his pancakes and chocolate chip cookies that were stored in the pumpkin cookie jar. He would tell them stories about family, jokes, and funny songs. And, of course they loved to share their favorite dessert with grandpa - ice cream! Alan and Carol are members of Hope Lutheran Church in Bonita Springs, Florida and after retirement spent time volunteering for Harvest Time Ministries in Bonita Springs, FL. A private service and inurnment will be held in Milwaukee. A memorial service in Florida for Alan will be planned, likely in November, when Carol returns home. Memorials appreciated to Harvest Time Ministries. Visit www.harvesttimebonita.org for more information.
